How to make a Zamboni

It is the time of the year when the ice on the lake is ready for playing. Before you venture out, make sure the ice is thick enough for the activities you would like to embark on.

After building a hockey rink, some maintenance is in order. Part of the upkeep involves smoothing the ice. Zambonis are used for that purpose, but no Citylaker will want to buy a real full-size one.

Zambonis do 2 things: shave a thin layer of ice and lay a thin layer of warm water to allow new ice to form. This brief video shows how a Zamboni works, but this gentleman explains it better.

In this post, I am going to show you how to build a professional Zamboni how my neighbours built half of a Zamboni (no ice shaving, just warm water):
